Liana Spitz, 68, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Thursday, June 4, 2015, at the Columbus Community Hospital.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 9 at 11:00 AM at Gass Haney Funeral Home with Rev. Chris McArdle officiating. Private family interment will be at a later date. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM and continue on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until service time, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Heart Institute.

Liana Spitz was born January 28, 1947, in St. Paul, Nebraska, to Theodore and Grace (Feddersen) Kunze. She graduated from Kearney High School in Kearney, Nebraska. On June 7, 1965, Liana was united in marriage to Jimmy Spitz. The couple moved to Duncan, Nebraska, in 1974, later moving into Columbus in 2002. Liana worked for JC Penny, Kmart, and retired from Husker CoOp after 21 years where she was the bookkeeper.

Liana and Jim loved traveling and were able to visit all 48 continental states, and many parts of Canada. She enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, golfing, going to casinos, and motorcycling. In 2012, Liana and Jim started spending the winter months in Arizona which she thoroughly loved. Liana and Jim would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, June 7th.

Sister – Selma (Earl) Ferguson of Nelson, NE
