William R. Fischer, 86, of Humphrey, Nebraska, died Monday, January 3, 2022, at the Clarkson Community Care Center, Clarkson, Nebraska.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 10:00 AM, at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus with Pastor Mike Escen officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested as those of the donor's choice. Private family burial will be in Washington state at a later date.

William R. Fischer was born June 2, 1935 in Pullman, Washington, to George and Geneva (Robertson) Fischer. After graduating from high school, Bill went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Washington State University. Bill did research for WSU Wenatchee Tree Fruit Research and Extension Center for 35 years. Upon his retirement, Bill enjoyed doing oil paintings and displayed his work in art galleries and coffee shops.

Bill was united in marriage to Evelyn Hamond and on October 16, 1987, was united in marriage to Claudia Jones-Morales. After selling their home in Washington, Claudia and Bill traveled the country, living in their van, until they bought an acreage near Leigh, Nebraska, in 2007. In 2017, they sold the acreage and moved to Humphrey, Nebraska. Bill enjoyed gardening, hiking, painting, and trying his hand at fishing. Bill also enjoyed writing poetry.
