Obituary

Virginia Claire Hittner, 91, passed away on August 29, 2024 in Omaha, Nebraska.  Virginia was born in Norfolk Nebraska on May 7, 1933, the daughter of Arthur Hittner and Claire (Wegener) Hittner.  She was a graduate of Briar Cliff College in Sioux City Iowa, and received a Masters degree from the University of Maryland in Baltimore.

Virginia worked in nursing many places across the United Sates, including her favorite gig as a summer camp nurse in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado. She enjoyed traveling, bridge, music, games, skiing, and any activity with family and friends. Before her recent move to Omaha, in 2023, Virginia had lived over 35 years in McAllen Texas, where she had retired as a "favorite" school nurse.  She was an active member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and a cherished friend and neighbor in her community.

Virginia was preceded in death by brothers, Herman, Dick, Paul and Tony Hittner, sister Rosemary Olsen, nieces Donna J. Hittner and Cathy Schroer.  Surviving siblings are sister, Anne Girard, and brother, Bob Hittner.  Virginia is also survived by 23 nieces and nephews, and the extended families of all 25 nieces and nephews, who carry delightful memories of the many adventures organized and led by their beloved Aunt Ginny.

Aunt Ginny touched countless people with her joyful and generous spirit.  Many thanks to Ginny's cousin, Iva Mueller, along with all the staff at The Josie Harper Hospice House, who surrounded Ginny with love and grace on her final journey.

Graveside Services will be held on Monday October 7, at St. Francis Cemetery after the 8 a.m. mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Humphrey, Nebraska.
