Vernetta Eleain Bills, 88, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at her home in Columbus.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 1 at 11:00 AM, at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Cory Burma officiating.  Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue Friday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church.  There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 AM on Friday at the church.  In lieu of flowers or stone statues, memorials may be directed to Peace Lutheran Comfort Dog Program or donor's choice.

Vernetta was born May 5, 1935, in Platte County, Nebraska, to Adolph and Marie (Borland) Behrens.  She was baptized and confirmed her Christian faith through confirmation at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Columbus.  Vernetta attended Christ Lutheran Grade School and graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus in 1953.  On April 15, 1956, Vernetta was united in marriage to Richard Bills at Christ Lutheran Church.

Vernetta worked at Dale Electronics for 32 years.  She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where she participated in LWML and did volunteer work.  Vernetta enjoyed attending block parties with her neighbors.

Sister – Opal Stout of Bloomfield, NE
Brother – Duane (Mary) Behrens of Columbus, NE
Several nieces and nephews
