Shirley Schumacher, 79, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at University of Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 8th, at 10:30 AM at Gass Haney Funeral Home with Rev. Adam Lassen officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 9:30 AM until service time, also at the funeral home. Interment will be on Friday, August 9, at 10:00 AM, at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska.

Shirley Ann Schumacher was born on July 22, 1944, in Abilene, Texas, to Lonnie and Georgia (Nelson) Roberts. She and her siblings were raised by their grandmother, Minnie Nelson, in Abilene and she graduated from high school there. Shirley met Melvin Schumacher while he was stationed in Texas for the Air Force during the Vietnam War. The couple was married on December 27, 1968. After Melvin's military service, they moved to Nebraska. They moved around northeast Nebraska for Melvin's job with the gas company before settling in Columbus.

Shirley enjoyed her Southwestern jewelry collection, quilting, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Golden Girls. Most of all, she loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren.
