Shirley Ann Fischer, 94, of Columbus, Nebraska, formerly of Humphrey, Nebraska, died Friday, May 10, 2024, at her home in Columbus.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, May 18, at 10:00 AM, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Humphrey with Father Stan Schmit celebrating the Mass.  Interment will be in the parish cemetery.  Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM vigil service, all at the church.  Visitation will continue Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time, also at the church.

Shirley Ann Fischer was born on October 30, 1929, to Tony and Irene (Bender) Schaecher in Humphrey. She attended school in Humphrey and graduated from Humphrey St. Francis in 1947. On April 26, 1949, Shirley was united in marriage to Alvin Fischer at St. Francis Catholic Church. The couple made their home on the farm until moving in to Humphrey in 1960. Shirley worked as a beautician out of her home, both on the farm and in town.

Shirley was a very sociable person. She loved playing cards with anyone who would play with her and would leave her door open at her apartment, just in case someone wanted to come in and visit. She enjoyed sports, especially Husker football and volleyball. Shirley was a faithful member of St. Francis Catholic Church, serving in the church choir, as part of the church quilting club, and as a member of Christian Mothers.
