Obituary

Sandra Jane Swantek, 85, of Genoa, Nebraska, died Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Genoa Long Term Care Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, May 3, at 10:00 AM at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Father Bill L'Heureux celebrating the Mass. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM, at the church. Visitation will continue Friday, from 9:00 AM until service time at the church. Interment will be in Friends Cemetery.

Sandra Jane Swantek was born August 29, 1938, in Genoa, Nebraska, to Claude "Tag" and R. Genevieve (Johnson) Elm.  She graduated from Genoa High School in 1956, singing in the choir and was a cheerleader.  Sandra taught school for two years at Nance County District 21 and Platte County District 6.  She attended Peru State College for two summers.

Sandra was united in marriage to Phil Swantek on November 16, 1957, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  The couple had five children, Matt, Marc, Monte, Max, and Melody.  Sandra worked alongside Phil on the farm, raising cattle and horses.  Prior to joining the Catholic Church, Sandra was a member of the Congregational Church where she sang in the choir.

Sandra served on the Genoa School Board for 20 years, was a member of the Highway 14 Association for 10 years, a member of the Genoa Indian School Foundation and the Happy Neighbors Club.  One of the highlights of her life was in 1995 when her uncle took her on a month long trip around the world.

Sandra joined St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church after her marriage to Phil.  She was a great wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Husband of 67 years – Phil Swantek of Genoa, NE
Sons – Matt Swantek of Carroll, IA; Monte (Tammy) Swantek of Genoa, NE; Marc (Annette) Swantek of Genoa, NE; Max (Suzanne) Swantek of Grand Island, NE
Daughter – Melody Swantek of New York
13 Grandchildren and 9 Great-Grandchildren with another one expected in July
Brothers – David Elm of Boulder, CO; Don (Sue) Elm of Longmont, CO; Edwin (Chris) Elm of Columbus, NE; Rod Elm of Genoa, NE; and Chance (Dawn) Elm of Minneapolis, MN
Sisters – Ginger Elm of Denver, CO; and Tammi Thorp of Las Vegas, NV

Sandra was preceded in death by:
Parents – Claude & R. Genevieve Elm
Sister-in-law – Kathy Elm
Brother-in-law – Steve Thorp
