Obituary

Ronald L. Gumm, 79, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Friday, March 28, 2025, at Cottonwood House in Columbus.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 10:30 AM at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus with Fr. Patrick Harrison celebrating the Mass.  Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery with military honors by The American Legion, Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard.  Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Vigil Service at Gass Haney Funeral Home.  Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church.  Those attending are asked to come dressed casual and wear your favorite golf shirt.  Memorials are suggested to St. Bonaventure Church or Sammy's Superhero's Foundation.

Ronald L. Gumm died March 28 peacefully with family by his side from a glioblastoma brain tumor. He was born July 8, 1945, in Omaha, NE to Arthur and Emma (Zuroski) Gumm. He spent his early childhood in Schuyler, NE and subsequently moved to Columbus, NE and attended St Bonaventure grade school and graduated from Columbus High School in 1963. He attended Southeast Community College in Milford, NE and received his degree in drafting. He worked for 35 years at Nebraska Public Power District as a draftsman and then a Senior Engineering Tech retiring in 2006. He spent 6 years as a military policeman in the Army Reserves.

He married Karen Wagner on October 28, 1967, at St. Bonaventure Church. They had three children.

Ron's hobbies were hunting, fishing and golfing at some of his favorite golf courses like Tatanka Golf Club and Centura Hills Golf Club. He was especially proud of his hole in one at the Wayne Country Club. Early in his fishing days he published a newsletter for the Nebraska Bass Federation, and he was a member of the Outdoor Writer's Association.  He loved taking his grandchildren fishing and golfing.  As a member of St. Bonaventure Church, Ron did a perpetual adoration hour at the church for 30 year.

Daughter Erin (John) Neuhaus grandchildren Natalie, Ella, Grant and Reid of Colorado Springs, CO
Brother-in-law Keith (Mary) Wagner
Nephews Rob Napp, Lance and Lincoln Wagner
Nieces Alisa Leslie, Angela Nelson, Melissa Pierce, and Carissa Sanny

Ron was preceded in death by
Parents and two brothers Roger and Rodney
