Rogelio "Roger"
Campos Chavez
September 16, 1949 – April 5, 2025
Rogelio Campos Chavez, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025, at Bryan Medical Center East Campus in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was 75 years old.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, April 11 at 10:30 AM at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Fr. Nicholas Mishek celebrating the Mass. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM with a vigil service at 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Friday from 9:30 AM until Mass time at the church. Interment be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Rogelio was born on September 16, 1949, in Chinameca, El Salvador, to Virgilio Petronilio Campos and Maria Olivia Chavez. The fifth eldest of nine children, Roger's early years were marked by the joy and energy of growing up alongside his many siblings, and the hard-earned wisdom that came from working in the sugar cane fields with his father.
Never one to settle, Roger's journey took him far from his humble beginnings—not once, but twice making the bold move to the United States in pursuit of a better life. His path eventually led him to Anaheim, California, where fate introduced him to his future wife, Sonia. Their journey together would take them across the country—from California to Alexandria, Virginia—before finally settling in Columbus, Nebraska, where they built a home and life rooted in love and faith. Roger and Sonia were married on February 23, 1996, and six months later welcomed their greatest joy, their son, Quezelmex J. Campos.
Roger was a devoted member of his Catholic parish, where he gave generously of his time and heart. He played a key role in the Spanish Mass community and was deeply involved in retreats and church activities, always eager to serve and uplift those around him.
Those who knew Roger will remember his quiet strength, unwavering faith, and the deep love he had for his family and community. He lived a life of resilience, integrity, and purpose—leaving behind a legacy of service, devotion, and perseverance.
Roger is survived by his loving ex-wife Sonia, his son Quezelmex (Kaitlyn), his grandson Zaiven and his extended family spanning across the U.S. and El Salvador. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
May he rest in eternal peace.
