Richard D
Korte
June 20, 1939 – May 29, 2025
Richard "Rich" Korte, of Columbus, Nebraska, a truly beloved husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, in Columbus, Nebraska, at the age of 85. Born on June 20, 1939, in Columbus to Hilda (Rosendahl) and Walter Korte, Rich lived a life full of laughter, family, incredible woodworking skills, and a quiet faith that guided him.
His journey began in Columbus, Nebraska, where he was baptized, confirmed, and attended Immanuel Lutheran School. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1957, embarking on a career that would showcase his talent as a master woodworker. For 35 years, Rich served as foreman at CK Planning Mill, leaving an enduring mark on the community through his dedication and expertise.
Rich's life was enriched by his deep faith and his love for his family. He met his wife, Marlene Dey, through their shared involvement in youth church gatherings, and they were married on August 5, 1961, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and devotion.
When he wasn't woodworking, Rich knew how to enjoy life's simple pleasures. He loved to sing, wasn't afraid of a friendly competition on the bowling lanes, and was an absolutely devoted fan of his Nebraska Cornhuskers and the St. Louis Cardinals. You could often find him cheering them on with genuine enthusiasm.
Rich is lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Marlene Korte, who was his rock and partner in crime; his sister, Corinne Korte Clayton of Lincoln, Nebraska, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories and was her hero; his daughters, Kelley Korte Bryan (Tom) of Columbus, Nebraska, and Jolaine Korte Felker (Ric) of Mesa, Arizona, who inherited his spirit; his son, Kevin Korte of Columbus, Nebraska, who shared his love for the good things in life; his cherished grandchildren, Heather Korte Wolf (Justin) of Aurora, Nebraska, Courtney Bryan Burger (Travis) of Omaha, Nebraska, Kristin Korte Dawson (Brock) of Kearney, Nebraska, Christopher Bryan (Ashley) of Columbus, Nebraska, and Kallie Korte (Ethan) of Columbus, Nebraska, who brought so much joy to his later years; and his six great-grandchildren, who were lucky enough to experience his warmth and humor.
Rich's legacy extends beyond his accomplishments; it is found in the love he shared with his family and the lasting impressions he made on all who knew him. His warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed. He will be remembered for his kindness, his skill, and his devotion to his loved ones.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 9, at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Patrick Sparling officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue Monday, from 10:00 AM until service time, at the church. Interment will be in Columbus Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to continue sharing memories of Richard at a luncheon in the Immanuel Family Life Center after the committal service at the cemetery.
