Rebecca "Becky" Smith, 68, of Columbus, Nebraska, formerly of Beatrice, Nebraska, died Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at the Columbus Community Hospital.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, on Monday, February 24, at Gass Haney Funeral Home with Rev. Adam Lassen officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM, and continue Monday, from 9:30 AM until service time, all at the funeral home. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery in Shelby, Nebraska. Rebecca Louise Smith was born on July 25, 1956, in Hastings, Nebraska, to Richard and Janet (Graham) Brommer. Her family spent much of her young adult life in Tecumseh, Nebraska, which she was very fond of, and graduated from in 1974. On July 7, 1990, Becky was united in marriage to Steven Smith in Beatrice, which is where they made their home for many years, until recently moving to Columbus. She attended UNL, obtaining multiple degrees in business accounting, before working at Beatrice National Bank for over 25 years.

Becky enjoyed crafts, shopping for antiques, and was excellent with home décor. She also enjoyed going to car shows with Steve. After Becky and Steve's daughter Bessie suffered from a brain tumor in the second grade, Becky became her devoted caregiver for many years while also serving the Beatrice school system as a para educator, until her retirement in 2021. She loved every child she had contact with, as if they were her own.

Becky had given her entire life to those around her, and according to Matthew was, "the most selfless person he has ever known."
