Obituary

Philip "Phil" Andrew Greig of Columbus, NE passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, with his family by his side.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Cory Burma officiating.  Visitation will be on Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue Friday from 10:00 until service time at the church.  Memorials may be directed to the family choice.  The service will be broadcast live through the churches site at https://www.youtube.com/c/peacecolumbus .

Phil was born April 19, 1956, in Aberdeen Scotland, U.K., to Robert and Elizabeth (Umphrey) Greig.  Following his primary school and graduation in Aberdeen, he relocated to England and traveled the world with his employment.  Among all the places he visited, Thailand was his favorite.

Phil moved to Rockford, Illinois, for his position with Woodward Governor.  He ultimately met the love of his life Tammy (Busteed) Olson.  They spent a lot of time with their friends in Rockton, Illinois, where they resided.  They later relocated to Columbus, Nebraska, to be closer to his in-laws.  Phil was employed at Jackson Services as HR manager for the past eleven years.

Phil faced health issues since Covid, yet nothing could hold him back.  Each time he was discharged from the hospital he returned to work without hesitation.  A strong-willed man, he fought tirelessly through every obstacle.  His greatest joy in life was his family.  He enjoyed camping trips and quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.

Phil loved hosting gatherings and feeding his guests.  He had a knack with food and created unique flavors with his own twist, refusing to use a recipe.

Phil was passionate about British football, NASCAR, March Madness, and the Superbowl.  He enjoyed playing darts and pool.  He loved traveling to a beach, where he'd spend countless hours soaking up the sun.

Phil had a way of connecting with people, easily forming friendships with everyone he encountered.  He was a loyal companion, reliable pillar, a true friend, and constant presence in everyone's lives.  He was known for his dry sense of humor.  He was gentle and kind.  He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
