Obituary

Marvin C. Elston, 101, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Sunday, September 22, 2024, at his home in Columbus.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 27, at 11:00 AM, at Gass Haney Funeral Home with Rev. Cory Burma officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, from 10:00 AM until service time, at the funeral home. Military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post 84. Private family interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Building Campaign.

Marvin C. Elston was born September 19, 1923, in Columbus, Nebraska, to Marvin and Catherine (Boettcher) Elston.  He attended Columbus Public Schools and graduated from Kramer High School.  Marv entered the United States Army Air Forces on February 19, 1943, and was honorably discharged on December 5, 1945, serving during WWII in the European Theatre.

Marv was united in marriage to Dorothy Rayman on December 14, 1950, at Immanuel Lutheran Parsonage.  He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church as an adult.  Marvin worked for the gas company for many years.  Marv loved being outdoors and enjoyed fishing and camping with his wife and daughters. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Peace Lutheran Church.

Daughter – Lori (Dale) Novacek of San Antonio, TX
Daughter – Judi (Tom) Brown of Ellsworth, KS
Grandchildren – Beth (Jonathan) Carr of Austin, TX; Brian (Stephanie) Novacek of Austin, TX; Erich (Ali) Schade of Salina, KS; Andrew (Kristen) Schade of Kansas City, MO; Evan (Kaitlyn) Schade of Kansas City, MO
Great Grandchildren – June and Georgia Carr; Charlie and Nora Novacek, Oliver Schade, and Mabel Schade
Many nieces and nephews

Brothers– George, Charles, Clifford, James, Daniel, Richard, and Larry Elston
