Marlin Melvin Johannes, 75, of Shawnee, Kansas, died Sunday, March 10, 2024, at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas, following ongoing complications from a stroke suffered in March 2020.
Memorial service/celebration of life arrangements will be held in Kansas.
Marlin was born on April 17, 1948, in Columbus, Nebraska, to Melvin Johannes and Dolores (Engelbart) Johannes. He was baptized, confirmed, and attended school at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Columbus before graduating from Leigh High School in 1966.
Marlin married Judith Joy Malena on September 16, 1967, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Creston, Nebraska. Marlin and Judy resided in Columbus for most of their married years and raised two children, Chad and Jenny.
Following high school graduation, Marlin served his country in the United States Army Reserves for eight years. He was employed by Behlen Manufacturing and later Cornhusker Public Power District, where he worked for nearly 40 years as an electrical lineman and the metering and apparatus supervisor before retiring in 2010. Following retirement, Marlin and Judy moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where Marlin was employed part-time by Lincoln Electric System, and they enjoyed attending Husker football and basketball games. Marlin and Judy moved to the Kansas City area in 2022.
In his spare time, Marlin enjoyed updating his garage, taking care of his lawn, hunting, bowling, and spending time with his family. He was a proud member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the American Rabbit Breeders Association, and the American Legion. He served as a Cub Scout leader, 4-H leader, volunteer firefighter, church council member, and Crime Stoppers board member.

Sister – Lorrie (Paul) Cada of Schuyler, Nebraska
Sister – Genise (Jay) Spittler of Norfolk, Nebraska

Sister-In-Law – Rae Ann (Ronald) Went of Columbus, Nebraska
