Marjorie Louise Hamilton, 89 of Columbus, Nebraska, went to her heavenly home peacefully on May 25, 2026, after living a courageous and beautiful life centered on God, family, friends and hard work. She passed away at Brookestone Acres.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, June 1, 2026 at 10:30 AM at St. Isidore Church in Columbus with Fr. Joseph Miksch celebrating the Mass. Interment will be on Tuesday at 1:00 PM at Calvary Cemetery in McCook, Nebraska. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM with a 6:00 PM Vigil Service, all at the church. Visitation will continue on Monday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church.
Marjorie was born in Hayes County, Nebraska, on March 8, 1937, to Albert and Pearl (Beck) Ring. She was born in her home on their farm located 15 miles northwest of Hayes Center.
Marjorie attended high school in Hayes Center, Nebraska. On October 2, 1954, she married her high school sweetheart, Larry Hamilton, in McCook, Nebraska at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Having spent her childhood without any siblings, Marjorie often stated that she wanted a large family; one that included 12 children. Marge and Larry started their life and their family in McCook, and eventually ended up with 8 children (7 boys and 1 daughter). This was short of the dream number of 12 children that Marge had in mind. But if you count the neighborhood kids who adopted her as a second mom, you could say that number far exceeded 12.
Marjorie honored the dream of her husband to farm and ranch and as fate would have it, she eventually ended up back at the Hayes County Ring farm of her childhood. This time she brought a car load of children with her. Many of the years that followed were difficult ones, but in reflection probably some of the happiest years, thanks to the help of God, family, and neighbors.
Marjorie dedicated her life to caring for others, first and foremost her family. As Marge’s children grew up and left home, grandchildren started appearing at her doorstep. She welcomed them with open arms and seemed to have even more energy for loving, caring and nurturing each new addition to her family. She did her best to recruit each child to come and stay with grandpa and grandma for extended times during the summer. This special time spent with grandkids was a major highlight of her life.
Beyond the nurturing of family, nothing brought Marge greater joy than traveling with Larry and making new friends along the way. Marge also enjoyed the hobby of quilting and created many pieces of art that family and friends now enjoy.
