Marita Albers, 85, of rural Columbus, Nebraska, died Thursday, April 11, 2024, at her home, surrounded by family.

Marita's wishes were for cremation.  There will be no visitation or services.  In lieu of any memorials, the family request that you sow wild daisy seeds in remembrance of Marita.

Marita was born June 13, 1938, in Łódź, Poland, as Marita Czarnik, daughter of Leopold and Klara (Steinke) Czarnik.  When Hitler overran Poland he changed the German residents' last names to German names and thus the family's last name became Schwartz instead of Czarnik, both of which mean black.  Hitler also moved the family out of Poland, planning to settle them in what is now Czech Republic, but the allies bombed the railways and the family ended up in Rohrbach, Austria.  She was baptized into the Lutheran faith in Europe and completed her education in Austria.  The family was sponsored by a cousin and her husband and moved to Omaha, Nebraska, in 1956.

Marita went to beauty school in Omaha and worked as a Candy Striper at a local hospital.  It was here that she met a patient, Jerry Albers, and after he was released from the hospital, started dating and on June 4, 1960, were united in marriage.  They moved to the Columbus area in 1979 where they built their own home southwest of Duncan.  Marita worked for Jackson Services for over 20 years.
She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, camping, knitting, and loved nature.  They raised fawns and waterfowl and would release them into the wild.
