Lyle H. Alswager, 94, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 10:30 AM, at Shell Creek Baptist Church, rural Columbus, with Pastor Ben Jones and Pastor Marlin Mohrman officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue Tuesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church.  Interment will be in the church cemetery with military honors byAmerican Legion Parry Post 283 of Platte Center.  Memorials may be directed to Shell Creek Baptist Church. Lyle Herbert Alswager was born at home, in rural Columbus, on January 15, 1930, to George and Selma (Wetgen) Alswager. He graduated from Kramer High School in 1947. He served in the US Air Navy Reserves from 1950 – 1954, training in Meteorology. On February 20, 1951, Lyle was united in marriage to Luella Kallweit at the Creston Baptist Church in Creston, Nebraska.

Lyle farmed for many years north of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, painting and singing. He sang in a quartet and in his church for many years. He served on the county school board and as a deacon and trustee at Shell Creek Baptist Church.
