Lois Korte, 85, of Leigh, died July 1, 2018, at her home in rural Leigh, Nebraska.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Columbus, with Rev. Aaron Witt officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran School or Camp Luther.
God placed Lois into the hands of her parents, Julius and Lucy (Lueschen) Hollman on July 3, 1932, in rural Platte County. She was brought into the Kingdom of God by Holy Baptism on July 24, 1932, at Christ Lutheran Church in Columbus. She reaffirmed her baptismal covenant at her confirmation on May 6, 1945, at Christ Lutheran Church and promised to live her whole life as a child of God.
Lois attended District #48 and Christ Lutheran School and graduated from Kramer High School in 1949. She worked at Consumer Public Power District prior to marriage and also at Snyder Engineering in the mid-1980s.
On Sept. 6, 1950, Lois and Harry Korte were united in holy marriage at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Columbus. Lois and Harry farmed together their entire married life. Even though Lois did not want to be known for her cooking, she was. Some of the special requests included chocolate angel food cake, doughnuts, homemade root beer, fruit cake and pies.
Lois was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and LWML. She was a past member of Walther League and LLL. For many years, Lois served on the Zone and District LWML Boards. She served on the Leigh Giving Tree Board for many years and also the Daily Devotion Board for over 50 years.
Surviving Lois is her husband, Harry of Leigh, Nebraska; two sons, Anson (Cheryl) Korte and Bruce Korte of Leigh, daughter, Karla (Mike) Dixon of Columbus, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two sisters, Hazel (Richard) Saalfeld of Columbus, Gladys (Ron) Mueller of Seward, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Norman (Elaine) Korte, Evelyn Wilke, and Dorothy Wurdeman; special friends, Karen Wurdeman and Diana Mueller.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Lucy Hollman; daughter, Colleen Korte; grandson, Brent Dixon; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edgar and Evelyn Korte, Elmer and Connie Korte, Allen Korte, LaVern Wilke, and Willis Wurdeman.
