Linda Kay Lampshire was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on August 26, 1949, to Dr. Earl and Carol Lampshire. She lived in Lincoln until her family moved to California for several years in the early 1950s because of her father's work as a dentist during the Korean War. She later returned to Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School in 1967. In 1971 she graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska. At that time there were not many women in business classes. Her father told her she had to graduate from the University before she could get married, so she was motivated to get through.
After her college graduation, Linda worked at Nebraska Boiler in Lincoln, followed by work at a Lincoln Stock Brokerage company, and then in the accounting department of the City of Lincoln. She also worked for her uncle at a nursing home that he had purchased. This experience led her to pursue being a licensed Nursing Home Administrator and later an Assisted Living Administrator.
In the early 1980s Linda made the decision to become a Chiropractor, as one of her Chiropractor's had significantly helped her life. She attended Logan Chiropractic College in St. Louis and graduated as a Doctor of Chiropractic. Not knowing for sure where she would practice after graduation, she became licensed in the states of Missouri, Oklahoma, and Nebraska.
In 1989 an opportunity came up to purchase a chiropractic business in Columbus, Nebraska, and Linda began seeing and helping her first patients. She truly enjoyed being able to help patients and met many people during her years in business. It was always rewarding when she would see an old patient years later, and they would thank her for the help she had given them. She has taken the continuing education and attended the meetings and is still licensed in Chiropractic and Nursing Home Administration.
Linda met Gordon Heins when in Columbus and the two were married in 1990. She would often recall her first date with him to the Columbus Runza to get a cheeseburger and later see a movie. In the early years of their marriage, they traveled extensively. She was a member of various community and women's organizations in Columbus, including PEO, Columbus Women's Club, American Businesswomen's Association, and Kiwanis. She enjoyed attending those organizations and was active and a leader in them. She really enjoyed singing and had a beautiful voice. She sang at hundreds of events with the Columbus Consonairs over many years. She also liked organizing group gifts for couples getting married.
Linda is survived by her husband Gordon, sister Janet, several nieces and nephews, and two brother in laws. She was a Christian and had a personal relationship with Jesus. We look forward to hearing her beautiful singing voice and seeing her smile in heaven someday. She was wonderful wife and friend and will be missed.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents.
