LeRoy E. Schroeder, 94, of Norfolk, Nebraska, formerly of Columbus, Nebraska, died Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 15, at 10:00 AM, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor Ollie Fullmer officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Saturday, from 9:00 AM until service time, at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Saturday, at 9:45 AM, at the church. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post 84. In lieu of flowers, plants, stones, etc., memorials are suggested as those of the donor or family choice.
LeRoy was born September 15, 1929, in Columbus, Nebraska, to Ernst and Lillie (Benning) Schroeder. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church where he has been a lifelong member. LeRoy attended Platte County grade school and graduated from Kramer High School in 1947. On October 25, 1951, LeRoy entered the United States Army, serving as a MASH medic during the Korean war. He was honorably discharged on September 28, 1953. After his military service, LeRoy returned to Columbus and began farming and operating a dairy farm. On June 15, 1958, he was united in marriage to Alnetta Leamons in Grand Island, Nebraska. The couple lived on the family farm until 2012 when they moved into the Norfolk Veterans Home.
LeRoy lived for working on his farm. He was a member of the Mid-America Dairymen's Resolution Committee, National and State Holstein Association, Shorthorn Association, and a life member of the FFA Alumni Association. He was a past commander of VFW Post 3704 where he was a life member. LeRoy was involved in the Masonic Lodge, Shriner's, Harmony Chapter of Eastern Star and the Fullerton Chapter of Eastern Star. In 2000, LeRoy received a "Letter of Appreciation" from Kim Dae-jung, President of the Republic of Korea, on the 50th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War. He was very proud of this letter and of his service in the United States Army.

Granddaughters – Desserae (Josh) Chmiel-French of Lincoln, NE; Tana Smith of Lincoln, NE; Kimberly (Corey) Smith-Spencer of New Castle, OK
