Obituary

Leonard F. Krings passed away peacefully at home at Prairie Village Columbus, NE. Visitation will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Leigh, Nebraska on Tuesday March 22 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM, and funeral services will be at the same location on Wednesday March 23rd at 10:30AM.

Mr. Leonard Krings was born on November 29, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, NE to parents William H. and Anna Marie (Stracke) Krings.

He married Esther Lucile Hartman from Greeley, NE on March 29, 1948, at O'Connor Catholic church southeast of Greeley, and began farming northeast of Cedar Rapids, NE.

Over the years Leonard enjoyed many jobs and professions. He moved his family to Creston, NE during the mid-1950's (circa 56') where he ran "Krings Tavern" for roughly 20 years. He was also highly involved with other ventures, including selling PAG corn seed, factory work at Behlen Manufacturing Co., sewage disposal, well drilling, Creston Fertilizer,and janitorial work at Leigh and Lindsay, NE schools. During this time Leonard and Esther raised a family of seven children, and attended St. Mary's Catholic church in Leigh, NE. Leonard was well known in Creston and surrounding communities primarily for his jokes, card playing, coin tricks and feats of strength as he challenged arm wrestlers, finger pullers and anyone who thought they too could lift a bar chair with one hand and one chair leg with 1.5 cases of beer perched on the chair! Leonard will be remembered as always willing to help those in need, as evidenced by all of the produce that he share with family and friends from his huge gardens.

Survivors include three sons: Harold (Mary Kay) Columbus, NE, William (Judie) Dwight, NE, Kenneth and (Craig Giraudo) Pacific Grove, CA and daughters Mary (Rodney Schroeder) Ashland, NE and Diane (Tim Mausbach) Creston, NE, 12 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Great Grandson, and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife Esther, parents (William and Anna), sister Clara. brothers Harold and Alfred, daughter Rebecca Johnston, and son Leonard John.

Memorials may be directed to the Creston, NE Rescue squad, St. Mary's Catholic church (Leigh, NE) or to organizations of your choice.
