Obituary

Lenora J. Kallweit, 87, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at Meridian Gardens in Columbus.

Private funeral arrangements are being planned.  A public visitation will be held on Monday, January 6 from 5:00 PM -  7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus.  Interment will be in Creston Fairview Cemetery, Creston, Nebraska.  Memorials are suggested as those of family or donor's choice.

Lenora Jo Kallweit was born July 25, 1937, in Shelby, Nebraska to Joseph and LuCele (Shaneyfelt) Odermatt Sr.  Lenora was from a blended family with brothers, Frank and Joe and sisters Lois, Lou, Lil, Teen and Verna. The family moved to Platte Center, Nebraska where Lenora graduated from Platte Center High in May 1954.  She met Donald Kallweit while working at her Mother's Restaurant, The Swiss Shack. They got engaged on the way to a Nebraska football game.   They kept it a secret until he could give her the ring he already had.  Donald and Lenora were married on February 13, 1955, at Palestine Baptist Church rural Lindsay, Nebraska.  They made their home in a basement house in Humphrey before moving to a farm just outside Humphrey, NE.  In 1989, they moved to Columbus, Nebraska. To this union two sons were born, Carroll in February,1956 and 13 years later Daryl born in January 1969.

Lenora worked as a cook at Humphrey Public School, The Happy Chef as a waitress and for 18+ years at Dales/Vishay on the line.  The later jobs were always night shift positions.

Lenora and Don were involved members of the Baptist Church in Creston.  Her later years she was a member of Highland Park Church.  Lenora was a devoted person to her faith.  She taught Sunday School and was a leader of an in-home women's weekly Bible Study.

Don and Lenora were able to enjoy numerous trips together.  They went to Germany, Hawaii, and Alaska. After the passing of Don, Lenora enjoyed bus trips with close friends to places throughout the United States.

Lenora was an incredibly talented and crafty person.  She spent enjoyable time with ceramics, painting, raising African Violets and she loved watching the Amaryllis shoot up overnight and bloom.   She absolutely adored horses and birds.

7 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandson
