Leland "Bud" Waldo Wicks, 96, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, died Friday, December 27, 2024, at St. Francis Medical Center in Tulsa.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Duesman Funeral Chapel in Humphrey, Nebraska. Interment with military honors will be in the Humphrey City Cemetery.
Leland W. Wicks, "Bud" was born on April 12, 1928, to Waldo E. and Cora M. Wicks in Primrose, NE. Bud graduated from Humphrey High School, Humphrey, NE class of 1945. He received his BA from Hastings College, Hastings, NE, May 1953. In July 1953 he was drafted into the Army and received an honorable discharge in January 1955. Later in September 1955, he attended Baylor University Hospital in Dallas, TX. After graduating from the Grady Vaughn Physical Therapy School, he moved to Little Rock, AR and completed the practical portion of his physical therapy training at St. Vincent's Infirmary where he met the love of his life, Pat Fike.
On November 30, 1957, he and Pat married, and they began their life together in Ft. Smith, AR where he worked at St. Edwards (Mercy Medical Center, Fort Smith) Hospital. They were blessed with three children. Bud was a faithful husband, loving father and dedicated employee who enjoyed helping others. He was a humble man with a quick sense of humor. He was an active member at First United Methodist Church and the Seeker's Sunday School Class in Ft. Smith, AR.
Bud is proceeded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Alvin Detlefsen a niece and nephew Patty and Tommy Detlefsen.
He is survived by his wife, Pat, of Ft. Smith, AR, daughter, Patty of Tulsa, OK and sons Larry (Cindy) of Broken Arrow, OK and Terry of Tulsa, OK.
He will be greatly missed by his family. At a later date, a memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church (F.U.M.C.) in Ft. Smith. In lieu of flowers, a donation to F.U.M.C., the Ronald McDonald House associated with Saint Francis Children's Hospital, Tulsa, OK or the Ronald McDonald House associated with Mercy Medical Center, Fort Smith, AR is welcome.
