Laura Stuefer, 96, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Friday, December 13, 2024, at her home at Cottonwood Senior Living in Columbus.
The funeral service will be Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Patrick Sparling officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, December 20 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue Saturday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Saturday at 10:15 AM at the church.
Laura was born July 14, 1928, on the family farm in Colfax County to Fred and Ottilie (Gondring) Eller. She grew up in the Richland area and belonged to several organizations there. She attended District 5 grade school and graduated from Kramer High School in 1946. Laura was employed as a secretary at Fleischer Schmid Corporation and Frederickson John Deere, Inc. where she met her future husband, Quay Stuefer. The couple were united in marriage on October 4, 1948, and married for 62 years until his passing. They farmed in rural Columbus all their married life.
Laura worked with the Platte County election board for many years. She was a member of the Columbus Hospital Auxiliary and a 25 year member of the Platte County Extension Club. Laura remained in contact with her high school classmates, meeting over monthly luncheons for many years.
Laura collected recipes, was a great cook and loved trying out her new recipes. She also collected peacock ornaments. Laura enjoyed her flowers, especially her irises and daylilies. She loved to travel and took many bus tours.
Laura was raised Catholic and had her first communion on May 16, 1937. After her marriage, Laura took instructions and joined Immanuel Lutheran Church through her confirmation on May 8, 1949. She remained a faithful member of Immanuel the rest of her life.

Son - Delmar "Del" Stuefer of Lincoln, NE
Daughter - Joan (Mike) Hasenkamp of Columbus, NE
Grandchildren - Christie (Paul) Frederick of Omaha, NE; and Ryan Hasenkamp of Lincoln, NE
Son - Gary Stuefer of Sacramento, CA
Brothers-in-law – Dayle Stuefer and Gayle Stuefer both of Lincoln, NE
