Kevin
Krebs
April 10, 1951 – April 20, 2023
Kevin Krebs, 72, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023 in Houston, Texas.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 20, 2023 at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Humphrey, Nebraska with Father Stan Schmit officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you donate to the charity of your choice in Kevin's name.
Kevin Joseph Krebs was born on April 10, 1951, in Houston, Texas to the late Warren and Edith (nee Quinlan) Krebs. Kevin was reared in Salina, Kansas where he graduated from St. Joseph High School. He matriculated to the University of Kansas where he graduated before starting a career in retail operations and accounting.
Kevin significantly raised the average IQ in every room he walked into. He had many diverse interests and was adept in all of them. He traveled extensively, took his own photographs of architectural and engineering feats, and catalogued them meticulously. He had a love and great understanding of history and politics. He knew most of what you could learn by yourself about things like bridge construction, railroads, cars, motorcycles, stereo equipment and performance simply out of enthusiasm and interest and a desire to be available as a resource for others.
Kevin was well read, well spoken, and willing to listen in conversations. Ask him about nearly any subject that interested him, and he likely would send you a three-page, single-spaced, researched assessment – including supporting documentation.
Kevin was a good neighbor, attentive to his friends and family, and a kind manager and mentor to employees. He told jokes that made you groan, watched old black and white movies, loved music played on vinyl records, rode his motorcycle, and from his collection of over 100 pairs of cowboy boots, would pick the appropriate pair for any event. To the end of his life, he remained committed to model railroading, and was planning a large layout in his townhome.
Kevin stood up for whatever he believed to be the truth. He was willing to invest hours in research and writing to communicate about any issue that he felt intensely about and believed needed to be righted. It didn't matter if it involved a three-dollar overcharge at a retail store or some perceived injustice worth thousands. Everything received equal, energetic, brilliant, inspirational pursuit of priceless truth and equity. He was relentless and passionate.
Kevin's life ended where it started: in Houston. He passed away on April 20, 2023. An only child, Kevin is survived by 20 first cousins, their spouses and children, and a circle of very close friends. He is already missed. He was buried next to his parents in Humphrey, NE.
