Kathy G. Schmidt, 82, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 12 at 11:00 AM, at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Cory Burma officiating. Family burial will be at a later date.  Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church.  Memorials are to be directed to Peace Lutheran Church.

Katherine Gertrude was born May 22, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York, to Erich and Katharina (Timm) Gramstedt.  She graduated from Bay Ridge High School, Brooklyn, New York in 1959.  On April 20, 1968, Kathy was united in marriage to Larry Schmidt in Manhattan.  Shortly after they were married, they moved to New Jersey and in 2009 relocated to Columbus, Nebraska.  For over 40 years, Kathy was the payroll administrator at 32 B-J Health Center in Manhattan.

Kathy was a faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus where she had been a member of the LWML and card club.  She enjoyed reading, traveling, and doing jigsaw puzzles, and participating in the Senior Center events and programs.

Husband – Larry Schmidt of Columbus, NE
Daughter – Erika (John) Finnegan of Henderson, TX
Grandchildren – Tyrese and Patrice
