Obituary

John Swantek, 81, of Genoa, Nebraska, died Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Genoa Community Hospital Long Term Care.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 4 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Genoa with Father Bill L'Heureux celebrating the Mass. Visitation will be on Friday, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM and continue on Saturday, from 9:30 AM until 10:00 AM, with a Rosary at 10:00 AM, prior to the Mass, all at the church. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery. The Mass will be broadcast live on the Gass Haney Facebook page.

Emil John Swantek Jr. was born in Genoa on October 27, 1941, to Emil and Helen (Reitz) Swantek Sr. He grew up on the family farm and attended school at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School at Krakow. John farmed for many years on the family farm east of Genoa. Besides his love of dogs, John also enjoyed going to auctions, John Deere tractors, going fishing, collecting all types of dolls, playing cards, watching TV, and going to the Pawnee Senior Center. He was a great conversationalist who enjoyed visiting with his family, friends, and the townspeople. John was also known to sell produce such as pumpkins, apples, and tomatoes on the main street of Genoa and then he would donate the proceeds to charity.

John is survived by:

Sister: Betty Frazier of Oklahoma City, OK
Brother: Pat (Tammy) Swantek of Grafton, NE
Sister: Corrine (Bob) Andreasen of Gretna, NE
Numerous nieces & nephews

John was preceded in death by:
Parents: Emil & Helen Swantek Sr.
Brothers-in-law: Tony Labenz & Al Frazier
