JoAnn was born in Shelby, Nebraska, to Art and Anna (Rohrich) Scholz on June 27, 1941. JoAnn attended school in Shelby and graduated in 1958. On July 6, 1958 she married Stan Hoffer in Schuyler, Nebraska, and were married 39 years.
JoAnn worked for the Platte Co. Extension office for 35 years. She helped raise gerbils for classrooms in the area. She was also known as the "Popcorn Lady" and gave presentations to school children. JoAnn then became a special education paraprofessional for Columbus Public Schools for 15 years. She found that job very rewarding.
Some of her favorite things were gardening and cultivating "Derby Beans." If you asked her, they were the best beans you could grow! Baking and canning also filled her days. According to JoAnn you could never have too many recipe books. She was a loyal Husker fan. From Husker football watch parties to attending home volleyball games.
She was a proud season ticket holder to Husker volleyball. JoAnn even attended the world's largest volleyball game in Lincoln. Let us not forget that she was addicted to QVC. Her favorite program on TV after her sports, that is….
