Obituary

Jay T. Rodehorst, 60, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Monday, March 18, 2024, at his home in rural Platte County.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, at 10:30 AM, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Timothy White officiating.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery rural Columbus.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and continue on Friday from 9:30 AM until service time, all at Trinity Lutheran Chur c h. In lieu of flowers, plaques, stones , etc., memorials are suggested to the family for later designation or the donor's choice.  There will be a family prayer service on Friday at 10:15 AM, also at the church.

Jay was born on October 14th, 1963, in Columbus, the son of Lorenz and Lois (Benning) Rodehorst.  He attended District 10 School and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1982. On July 27th, 1984, Jay married his high school sweetheart, Rachael Wilke, at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Columbus.  Jay was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he had served as an usher for many years. After high school, Jay joined his dad on the family farm and also worked at the Columbus Sale Pavilion and Purina Feeds. Jay farmed his entire life, alongside his wife Rachael and their children, and always had a passion for his cow-calf herd and most recently his feedlot operation. He was a rural volunteer fireman for 25 years. Jay was very active in 4-H and FFA and is fondly remembered for spending countless hours with his children and grandchildren working in the show barn. He was member of the Platte Valley Cattlemen. Jay loved being a grandpa to all his grandchildren and enjoyed teaching them his passion for farming.

Mother-in-law: Carolyn Wilke
Brother-in-law: Arlyn (Theresa) Wilke
Sister-in-law: Kari Wilke
Sister-in-law: Anita Wilke
Brother-in-law: David (Julie) Wilke
Many nieces, nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews
Best friend and loyal companion "Goose"
