Obituary

James Eugene Greer, of Kansas City, Missouri, was born on June 9, 1945, in Huntington Park, California to Dale (Bud) and Janet (Kmiecik) Greer. He departed this life on February 2, 2022, at the age of 76 after a brief battle with an aggressive form of lung cancer.

Jim was a loving father, grandfather, and friend to all. No matter who you were or where you came from, he could always engage you in conversation. At an early age, Jim developed a love of farming while spending time with his grandparents on their farm in Genoa, Nebraska. He helped out around the farm, learned to operate farm equipment, and developed a strong work ethic which helped shape his future career path. After graduating from Nicholas County High School in Summersville, West Virginia, Jim married his high school sweetheart Jane (Champe) Greer and settled in Kansas City, Missouri 1966. Jim became a skilled welder in the construction industry where he worked for more than 40 years. Jim's hard work and dedication to family were important values he instilled in his four children. He enjoyed watching sports and was a life-long fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. He loved dogs and had a soft spot for Boston Terriers. For many years, a hobby he enjoyed was working with model trains.

Jim is survived by his children, Michael Greer, Kevin Greer (and his wife, Diana), Katherine Greer, and John Greer; his grandchildren, Jake Greer, Madison Torres, and Zachary Torres; his brother George Greer (and his wife, Pam); his sisters, Margaret Talbert, Mary Jo Browning, and Gloria Neuharth (and her husband, Steve); and his former wife and good friend, Jane Greer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale (Bud) and Janet Greer, and his brother, Paul Greer.
