James "Jim" Furbur, 84, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Thursday, November 14, 2024, at his home.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 23, at 10:00 AM at Gass Haney Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Longacre officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday, from 9:00 AM until service time, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Memorials may be directed to the family. James Grant Furbur was born on September 15, 1940, in Royal township, North Dakota, to Grant and Lucille (Jones) Furbur. He grew up in Royal township and graduated from Alsen High School in 1958. He attended North Dakota State University until he entered the United States Army in 1963 and served until his honorable discharge. Jim moved to Shelby, Nebraska in 1966 and to Columbus in 1990. He worked at Behlen Manufacturing for 39 years until his retirement in 2007. On May 17, 1997, Jim was united in marriage to Marva Sidel.
Jim was a member of the VFW and a 50 year member of the American Legion Hartman Post 84. He was also a member of the Methodist church. He enjoyed playing bridge with his bridge club and also enjoyed crocheting, having made hundreds of blankets and potholders for family and friends.

Step-daughter: Marlys Sidel Sobota (Melissa Braun) of Blencoe, IA
Step-daughter: Marci (Jeff) Romshek of Bellwood, NE
