Hugo Fergin, 81, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Emerald Nursing and Rehab in Columbus.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 17, at 2:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home with Pastor Ollie Fullmer officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, from 1:00 PM until service time, also at the funeral home. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery.

Hugo was born on October 21, 1942, to Leonard and Natalie (Trotnov) Fergin in Berlin, Germany. His family moved to the United States when he was a small boy. He attended school in Columbus. Hugo was a horse trainer for many years; working for Jack Van Berg and traveling all over the United States. Hugo loved horses and worked as a trainer until illness forced him to retire.
