Herbert "Herb" Luchsinger, 88, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Emerald Care and Rehab in Columbus.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 3 at 10:30 AM, at St. Luke's United Church of Christ with Rev. Adam Lassen officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Friday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. Luke's United Church of Christ.
Herbert "Herb" Henry Luchsinger Jr. was born on the farm on April 5, 1937, in rural Platte County to Herbert Sr. and Mable (Keller) Luchsinger. Herb grew up in Platte County and graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus. On February 27, 1960, Herb was united in marriage to Diana Abegglen at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Columbus, Nebraska. Herb and Diana made their life together and raised their sons on the family farm in Platte County.
Herb was a farmer through and through. He loved farming and was proud of the Luchsinger farm legacy that was passed down through the generations. He was extremely proud of the fact that his granddaughter Alena embraced their farming legacy and has proven herself more than capable of carrying it on.
Herb served his community as a Volunteer Firefighter for the Columbus Rural Fire Department, and also served in the Nebraska National Guard.
Herb loved his work and his family. Herb and Diana enjoyed traveling together taking numerous bus trips with Moostash Joe, and also visiting places such as Europe, Switzerland, Hawaii for their 25th Anniversary, and Alaska. Herb enjoyed dancing with his wife, being with his granddaughters, and spending time with friends. Herb enjoyed fishing and hunting with his sons when they were younger. He also enjoyed watching Western movies and television shows and had an extensive electric train collection.

Grandchildren – Madeline Franks, Shandy Carlson, and Alena Luchsinger
Great Granddaughters – Chevelle Carlson and Winifred Carlson
