Gordon H. Hoessel, of rural Leigh, Nebraska, died Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Prairie Village Retirement Home in Columbus.

The funeral service will be Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 10:30 AM, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Leigh, Nebraska, with Rev. Dr. Marsha Jark-Swain officiating.  Interment will be in the parish cemetery.  Visitation will be on Friday, November 22 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Saturday from 9:30 AM  to service time at the church.  Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the Leigh Rescue Unit.

Gordon H. Hoessel was born April 4, 1925, on a farm in rural Platte County, Nebraska, near Leigh.  He attended District #23 Platte County School.  He was a life member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Leigh, where he was baptized and confirmed.  On February 9, 1947, at St. Paul's, Gordon was united in marriage to "the prettiest girl in the church", Edna Brock.  The couple made their home together on a farm near Leigh.

Gordon farmed his entire life, just moving to Columbus a month ago.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and wood carving, traveling around the United States with Edna, family, and friends.  He also tinkered in taxidermy, painting, and going to craft shows.  He was a hard-working man, dedicated to his family, friends, and his church.  He had served on the church council and for years rang the church bells.
