Gordon L. Blaser, 85, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Friday, June 2, 2023, at his home.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 10, at 10:30 AM, at St. Luke's United Church of Christ with Rev. Adam Lassen officiating. Interment will be in Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Friday, June 9 and continue Saturday from 9:30 AM until service time, all at the church. Memorials are suggested to Nebraska Wildlife Protectors, St. Luke's United Church of Christ, donor or family choice.
Gordon Blaser was born January 19, 1938 to Lawrence and Esther (Osborn) Blaser in Columbus, NE. He attended grade school and high school in Duncan, NE. Shortly after graduating he married Carole (Pike) and they moved to Yuba City, CA where her parents lived, eventually moving back to Columbus. To this union of 53 years, three children were born, Kelly, Mike, and Scott.
As a young boy, Gordon loved spending time at the river. This created his passion for the outdoors and of hunting. He was an avid hunter and traveled to many areas to enjoy this sport (Canada, Alaska, East/West Coasts, and many other areas in the US). He also had a passion for duck hunting and enjoyed his time in the duck blind with his very special group of guys. One place very special to him was Africa. He made six trips there, where he made a special friend in Ian, his Professional Hunter.
Another favorite pastime for family and friends was on the river Airboating. Over the years, Gordon made six airboats and loved giving rides. Gordon and Carole also spent part of a summer in Alaska and went south in the winter with their camper.
His biggest accomplishment was founding Blazer Manufacturing in September of 1974 and retired in December 2012 after 38+ years. It all began with the help of his wife Carole and their three children making products in their family basement and garage for Pacific Gun Sight Company. His job required several business trips, with Carole joining him on occasion. They enjoyed being able to see the different parts of the country. Prior to Blazer Manufacturing, he worked for two other local manufacturing companies. Side Note: The name of the company was actually misspelled on the original paperwork and should have been Blaser Manufacturing.
At the time of his death he was an NRA Platinum Life Member, Nebraska Wildlife Protectors Board Member, Columbus Rifle Club Member, and Member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ Church, where he served on the Trustee and Search Committees, and most recently, the Finance Committee.
In the past, he served as a member on the Nebraska Airboat Association, Ducks Unlimited, National Sporting Goods Association, Safari Club International (SCI), Izaak Walton, and Kiwanis boards.
He was united in marriage to Mary Delimont in June 2013. They enjoyed camping; traveling, especially their trips to Africa; and spending time with family. Family get togethers were always a special time.
