Obituary

George Meyers, 83, of Goehner, Nebraska, died Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at Bryan LGH West in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The funeral service will be Monday, October 19, 10:00 A.M. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica, Nebraska, with Revs. Jon Dunbar and Richard Gudgel officiating. There will be a visitation on Monday from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M. at the church. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard.

George was born December 23, 1931, in Butler County, Nebraska, to Walker and Violet (Miller) Meyers. He attended school in Bellwood and graduated from Bellwood High School in 1951. George entered the U.S. Navy on December 3, 1951, and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on December 2, 1955. On February 6, 1954, George was united in marriage to Dorathea Case in San Diego, California. They had three children, Gene, Debbie, and Georgia. George then went to work for Convair/General Dynamics working at the missile silos around the country until 1964. From 1964 to 1976, George owned and operated a Conoco Service Station in Lincoln, Nebraska. He moved to Seward in 1976 where he operated the Sportsman Tavern until 1980. George was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Church in June of 1981.On June 10, 1979, George was married to Irma Hans in Utica. In 1980, George went to work as a correctional officer for Seward County until he went to work for JTI in 1986 where he remained until his retirement in 1993. He was a lifelong member of the VFW # 4755 in Seward and also a member of the American Legion Post #33.
