Gary Ziegler, 74, of Monroe, Nebraska, died Sunday, January 29, 2012, at Bryan LGH West in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at 10:30 AM at the Monroe United Methodist Church with Rev. Murry Jay Johnston officiating. Interment will be in the Palestine Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. There will be family prayer service on Wednesday at 10:15 AM at the church. Memorials are suggested to those of the family choice.

Gary Ziegler was born January 6, 1938, in Genoa, Nebraska, to Daniel and Mildred (Farrar) Ziegler. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1955 and on February 29, 1956, entered the United States Navy. He served on the USS Kearsarge. Gary was honorably discharged on January 27, 1960. Upon his return from the service, Gary went to work at the family business which started in 1922. Gary and his brother Bob purchased the business in the late 1960's and named it Ziegler Oil Company. In 1988, they sold the business and retired.

On February 21, 1964, Gary and Sharon Obrist were united in marriage at Sharon's parents home. Gary enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, Husker football, and taking his dog "Star" (Jo) for rides. He loved to tell jokes and was a bit of a prankster. Gary loved to play poker and made numerous friends doing so. Gary was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren.

Sister-in-law – Nancy Ziegler of Monroe, NE
