Erma was born December 3, 1926, in Meadow Grove, Nebraska, to Clarence and Martha (Schulte) Scheffler. She received Christ as her personal Savior early in her teens and was baptized. Erma graduated from Madison High School in May 1943 and attended Wayne State Teachers College and then taught in Madison County Schools from 1944 to 1948.
Erma was united in marriage to Darold Mohrman on September 1, 1948, in Creston, Nebraska. After their marriage, they farmed and lived in Madison and Platte counties. They were blessed with 54 years of marriage and three children, Douglas, David, and Jane.
While Darold worked the fields, Erma grew gardens, canned food, tended to livestock, cooked and cared for the family. She was a quiet soul, but she wielded a mighty axe when butchering chickens for her dinner table. Erma did all of this without running water and indoor plumbing for the first several years of their marriage with minimal complaining.
After moving to Columbus, she worked at Columbus Community Hospital and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She was a member of Highland Park Church where she participated in numerous Bible Studies. She valued her many friends and loved getting together to play Rook and Mexican Train. Erma enjoyed many hobbies, including traveling, cooking, baking, embroidery, and quilting. Her grandchildren loved her chocolate-caramel brownies. She cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren.
