Rev. Ellen "Ellie" Thober, 74, of Papillion, Nebraska, (formerly of Columbus, Nebraska), died Thursday, September 14, 2023, at University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Martha's Episcopal Church in Papillion with Bishop Scott Barker celebrating the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Martha's Episcopal Church or in care of the family.

Ellie was born November 28, 1948, in San Pedro, California to Melvin F. and Mildred E. (Craven) Schlachter. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1966. Ellie earned a nursing degree from Clarkson College, a Bachelor of Arts from Doane College, and a Master of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary. Ellie worked as a registered nurse, then in lay ministry positions. She was ordained as an Episcopal Priest in 2004, which was a lifelong dream of hers. Ellie served the Episcopal Diocese of Nebraska, as priest at St. Andrews in Omaha, rector at Church of Our Savior in North Platte, and rector at Grace Episcopal in Columbus.  She continued to be active in the diocese in retirement.

On September 19, 1970, Ellie was united in marriage to Bob Thober in Hastings, Nebraska. She was a loving wife, mother, and Grammy. Ellie enjoyed traveling, particularly trips with family, and special trips with her grandchildren.  She loved the outdoors, visiting many of the national parks, hiking and viewing wildlife.  She especially loved time with her children and grandchildren, playing games with them, and attending their numerous activities.
