Edward E. Porter, 78, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Tuesday, January 9, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Services are Friday, January 12, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Main officiating. Military honors will be given by the American Legion Honor Guard, Hartman Post #84. Interment will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Verdigre, Nebraska at 3:00 P.M. on Friday. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 11, 2001 from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. and on Friday, January 12, from 8:30 A.M. until service time all at the funeral home. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 P.M. on Thursday by Lebanon Lodge 323 A.F. & A.M. also at the funeral home.

Edward E. Porter, 78, was born December 10, 1922 in O'Neill, NE to Chauncey & Ella (Hubbard) Porter. Ed Graduated from O'Neill High School. He entered the U. S. Army on February 1, 1943 and was discharged on January 6, 1946. He reentered the Service from March 1, 1951 to October 8, 1951.Ed married Elaine Davey-Dunne on March 23, 1951 in Evanston, IL. He worked for the Nebraska State Patrol from 1949 to 1951. In 1951 they moved to Columbus and he went to work for the Gas Company and retired as a District Distribution Superintendant. He was then employed for 10 years at the Gass Haney Funeral Home. Ed was a member and Past Master of Lebanon Lodge 323 A.F. & A.M., Nebraska York Rite, Sesostris Shrine Temple, Pawnee Shrine Club and Motor Corp., American Legion, life member of the V.F.W., and the Methodist Church.
