Obituary

Delbert D Jonas, "Del" was born on December 15, 1944, in Columbus, Nebraska, to Stanley A and Margaret K (Stevenson) Jonas. Del grew up in Schuyler, Nebraska, and attended Schuyler Public Schools where he graduated from in 1963. He enlisted with the US Army National Guard in 1964 and later served in the US Navy from 1966-1970. Del met Marjorie "Joyce" Heule in 1965 and the two were later married on January 31, 1970, in Omaha, Nebraska, where they were both employed by Western Electric. Two children were born into this union, David M Jonas and Michael R Jonas. Del also worked at Finocchiaro Wine, United Distillers, Bluffs Run Casino and Boys Town while the children grew up. After retirement he looked forward to the times when he would get together with his sons and go out for breakfast. He also enjoyed playing with the family cats, talking about cars and trucks, and discussing the latest sports or political event of the week. Some of his most memorable moments were spending time with his brother and nephews watching the Huskers play on TV with an ice-cold beer.

Del passed away on January 28, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in Millard, Nebraska, at the age of 79. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Stanley J Jonas and sister Kay Trofholz. He is survived by his son, David of Omaha, NE; son Michael (Kerry) of Blair, NE; granddaughters Ashley and Marissa Jonas of Blair, NE; sister Trudy (Gene) Kmoch of Grand Island, NE; former spouse Marjorie Jonas of Omaha, NE; "bonus" daughter Kathleen Spence of Omaha, NE; nieces, nephews and many other family members and friends.
