Dean was born June 25th, 1942, to Jerry and Martha (Hobza) Brabec in rural Stanton County Nebraska. He attended a country schoolhouse until continuing his education at Clarkson High School and graduating in 1960.

On June 7th, 1969, Dean married the love of his life, Shirley Jindra, at St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Clarkson going on to have three children, Corey, Chris, and Ryan.

In 1975 Dean realized his dream of becoming a farmer and, with Shirley, began his new life on a farm north of Schuyler. They remained on the farm until relocating to Columbus in 2005. He was then employed with Flexcon Inc. where he worked for 17 years until his retirement on February 5th, 2016.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Brabec; his three children, Corey Brabec, Chris Brabec (Chris' wife Nichole) and Ryan Brabec; as well as his four grandchildren; Sophia, Helena, Max, and Jack. Additionally, his sister Vera (and husband Bernie) Wieman, brother Gerald (and wife Rita) Brabec; sister-in-law(s) Arlene Brabec, Betty Hledik, Jeannette Jindra, brother-in-law(s) Donald Votava, Adolph Jindra and Ronald (and wife Marilyn) Jindra. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews who he had come to know so well over the years.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents Jerry & Martha Brabec, sister Marlene Votava and brother Edward Brabec. As well as sister-in-law(s) Sharon Brabec, Alma (Adolph) Podany, Viola (Charles) Suchan, Ruth (Carl) Seberg, Doris (Gary) McDonald, Mildred Jindra and Mary Jindra. Brother-in-law(s) Robert Jindra, Alden (and his wife Marilyn) Jindra, Richard (and his wife Myrtle) Jindra and Ken Hledik.

His hobbies (while not gardening many hours a week) included listening to polka music with his wife, discussing current events (and the Huskers) with his sons and playing checkers and hide-and-seek with his grand kids (while pretending not to notice when they were cheating).

Dean was beloved by all who knew him. He was a quiet, kind and understanding man who all of us should hope to aspire to in each day of our own lives.

For Those I Love
For Those Who Love Me

When I am gone, release me, let me go…
I have so many things to see and do,

You must not tie yourself to me with tears.
Be happy that we had so many years.

I gave you my love. You can only guess
How much you gave to me in happiness.

I thank you for the love you each have showed.
But now it's time I traveled on alone.

So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only for a while we must part,
So bless the memories that lie within your heart.

I won't be far away, for life goes on.
So if you need me call and I will come…
Tho you can't see me or touch me,
I'll be near.
And if you listen with your heart
you will hear,
All of my love around you soft and clear.

And then when you come this way alone…
I'll greet you with a smile and say
"Welcome Home".
