Obituary

Darlene A. (Prokopec) Volovsek, 89, of Clarkson, Nebraska, died Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Clarkson Community Care Center in Clarkson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, November 30 at 10:30 AM, at SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Clarkson with Fr. Dan  Wittrock celebrating the Mass.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.   Visitation will be on Saturday beginning at 9:00 AM with a rosary being recited at 10:00 AM, all at the church in Clarkson.  Memorials may be directed to the wishes of the family. Darlene the daughter of Edwin and Adella (Sedlak) Cada was born March 21,1935, on a farm south of Clarkson in Colfax County. She attended rural school at District 21 south of Clarkson, graduated from Clarkson High School as Salutatorian in May 1952.  She taught school for 1 year at District 61 south of Clarkson.

On June 3rd 1953, she married Leonard Prokopec at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Heun.  They farmed north of Clarkson except for the years 1953 thru 1957 when Leonard served in the Air Force.  During those years they lived at Rantoul, Illinois, and Oscoda, Michigan.

In 1968 Darlene worked for Dr. John R. Oneal as an insurance and Medicare filer.  She worked there for 29 years as well as helping on the farm.  After Leonard passed away in June of 1991.  She worked for J & P Records of Lincoln.  Darlene was able to attend and work at many polka festivals in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Texas, Wyoming, and Nebraska.  This is when she met and married Stanley Volovsek of Willard, Wisconsin.  They were married at SS. Cyril & Methodius Church on December 13, 1997.  They made there home at Willard & Greenwood, Wisconsin with frequent trips back to Clarkson and moving back to Clarkson in October 2005.

Darlene entered the Clarkson Community Care Center in December 2020.  She enjoyed the company of her roommate Pat Tully and all activities playing cards and bingo.

Darlene was a member of the Catholic church funeral choir and Altar Society, and a member of the Catholic Workman organization. She enjoyed spending time with her grand children and great grandchildren, gardening her flower beds, and canning fruits and vegetables.  Darlene loved to play cards whenever time was available, polka dancing and square dancing.

Darlene is survived by four children:

Larry (Linda) Prokopec of Clarkson, Ne
11 Grand Children:

Mathew (Jenna) Prokopec, Damian (Christy)Prokopec, Sam (Stephanie) Prokopec
Aaron (Carrie) Prokopec, Brad (Special Friend Tonia) Prokopec
Andrea (JD) Koehn, Jamie (Clint) Hansen, Josh (Lynn) Prokopec

Also surviving are 3 nieces and their families, Darlene is also survived by 3 step children, Vern (Sharon) Volovsek, Jack (Sue) Volovsek, Peggy (Ed) Yurkovich, and several step grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, of Wisconsin.

Darlene was preceded in death by husbands:  Leonard Prokopec (1991) Stanley Volovsek (2007), Parents Edwin & Adella Cada, In law parents John & Helen Prokopec, great grandchildren Jonathon & Joel Prokopec, (2009) & Victoria Nagle (2014), Sister Delores Malena-Polosky (2024)
