Daniel Neil Dobbs was born May 22, 1980, in Columbus, Nebraska, to Brian and Judy (Overturf) Dobbs. He attended Columbus Public School and graduated from Columbus High School in 1998. On May 31, 2007, Daniel was united in marriage to Cassondra Riley who he had met while living in Lincoln. The couple were blessed with two sons, Daniel Jr. and David.
Daniel was an accomplished musician, an avid fisherman, excellent chef, kitchen gardener, and a VHS collector. Daniel was a Sr. Dining Service Associate at Willa Cather Dining Hall at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
Daniel was received into the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ after a nine-month battle with kidney cancer. Dan’s dad penned that they were so very proud of their son who valiantly battled an aggressive form of RCC cancer, all while seeking a closer walk with Jesus and his family. He left this world at peace with his Maker and the world, more worried about his parents, grandparents, family, and friends than he was himself.
Fighting cancer was an uphill battle from the start and he told his doctors that no matter what, heaven was awaiting him. He continued to work at Willa Cather Hall up to the last couple of months. He even played through the pain rock and roll’ish western folk music with his band friends at Duffy’s in Lincoln. His doctors were amazed with his musical abilities and mental strength, saying that he should have died months ago. He died undefeated – Dan 1, Satan 0. May God have mercy on all who fight against cancer.
