Cheryl was born on February 27, 1960, in Garden City, Kansas to Virgie (Lenz) Goertz. She grew up in Garden City until moving to Duncan, Nebraska in June 1971. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1978. She recently retired from Sapp Bros. Truck Stop in Columbus in February 2026 where she worked as an Office Manager for nearly 27 years. It was during her time at Sapp Bros. that she met a “cute farmer” that would become her husband, Gary Gossman. They were united in marriage on August 29, 2001 in Las Vegas.
She truly enjoyed being with her friends and family, and especially her grandchildren who said and did the “darndest” things and could always make her laugh! She also found joy participating in local women’s bowling leagues and loved all of her bowling ladies! If she wasn’t bowling or with family, you could catch her reading a good book on her Kindle with a Diet Pepsi (or Twisted Tea) or helping with anything her husband needed on the farm at the time. On Sundays, you could bet you would find her relaxing and watching an all-day marathon of Law and Order: SVU. She loved all of her friends and family dearly and we will continue to live on through her memories and laughs.
