Carylyn Elise (Buss) Runge, 92, of Columbus, Nebraska, went to her Heavenly home on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at her home at Brookestone Acres in Columbus. Carylyn was a kind and gentle soul, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and wonderful genuine friend to so many and those who loved being surrounded by her kindness.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 28, at 10:30 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church, Shell Creek, with Rev. Dr. Chris Alexander officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue Monday, from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Monday at 10:15 AM at the church. Carylyn Elise (Buss) Runge was the blessed twin daughter of Henry and Leona (Arndt) Buss and twin sister Marylyn who were born May 8, 1932, in the Lutheran Hospital in Columbus. She was brought into the kingdom of God by Holy Baptism and reaffirmed her baptismal covenant at her confirmation at Christ Lutheran Church, where she attended school from 1st – 8th grade having attended kindergarten at District 36, a rural school close to the farm where she lived as a child. She graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus in 1950 where she was active in FHA Future Homemakers of America and served as chapter and state officers and was awarded membership in the State of Nebraska Navy. She attended the College of Home Economics at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

Carylyn married August John Runge Jr. in 1951 (her beloved husband of 68 years) at Christ Lutheran Church rural Columbus and they made their forever home on a Platte County farm, where they raised a family of four beautiful children: Candice Lee, Sandra Jean, August Henry, and Christine Carylyn. Carylyn was devoted to her home and family and was a hardworking homemaker. Carylyn and August lived on the same Platte County farm for 55 years. In 2007, they left the farm and moved into the city of Columbus, where they made their home and continued to run Buss Auction & Realty, Co., Carylyn became a Real Estate Salesperson in 1978 and in 1985 she became the Real Estate Broker for Buss Auction & Realty Co.,in which her husband August served as an auctioneer and salesperson, the real estate company her father Henry Buss started in 1936. Carylyn was an auxiliary member for the Nebraska Auctioneer's Association.

Carylyn was a past member of the Cornhusker Livestock Club, and that enabled her to show cattle at the Platte County Fair, State Fair and Ak-Sar-Ben. Carylyn was a community focused person who was a member of the Lamplighter's Extension Club and a charter member, and helped organize the club in 1952. She was a member of Birthday club, and helped organize the Glowing Candles 4-H Club and served as one of its leaders which her three daughters belonged to. Carylyn was a member of St. John's Lutheran ELCA (Shell Creek) where she was a member of the St. John's Followers for Christ and WELCA (Women of the ELCA) and taught Sunday School for over 20 years, including all of her children and grandchildren. She served on the church council as secretary of the congregation and was a lector and a dedicated member of her church. Such a faithful person. After moving into Columbus, she volunteered at Emerson and North Park Elementary Schools. Her life was filled with attending her grandchildren's activities and enjoying her great-grandchildren. Holidays were always 'SPECIAL' and she enjoyed the house full of family, fun, food and fellowship. She wrote a memory journal of her life and enjoyed writing poetry and was published several times.

In her later years Carylyn continued to enjoy reading, bingo, puzzles, word searches and surprise visits from family and friends. She was a kind soul to so many.

Carylyn was preceded in death by her husband: August John Runge Jr., daughter Candice Lee Thornam, parents Henry and Leona Buss and sisters: Zona Doerr and Kathryn Buss
