Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 10:30 AM, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey, Nebraska, with Fr. Dan Wittrock celebrating the Mass. There will be a vigil service on Monday at 7:00 PM also at the church. Memorials can be directed to St. Francis Church or Sacred Heart Church.
Carlene (Van Dyke) Beller was born on February 25, 1938, in Platte County, Nebraska, near Lindsay and grew up on a farm near Humphrey, Nebraska. Carlene was the first of six children born to Carl and Mary (Pfeifer) Van Dyke.
Carlene attended school at St. Francis Elementary and graduated in 1955 from St. Francis High School. She went to the college of St. Mary in Omaha where she studied and earned her Elementary Education Degree. She taught school at St. Pat’s School in Fremont, Nebraska, St. Francis Elementary in Humphrey, and at the Humphrey Public School. She also worked as a Teacher’s Aide and school secretary and was on the board of the Humphrey Public Library for several years.
Carlene married her high school sweetheart, Ivan Joseph Beller, on June 14, 1958, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont, and their love story blossomed. They moved back to Humphrey where they raised their family. They partnered with Ken Backes in the Beller and Backes Farm Equipment Dealership which they owned and operated for over fifty years. Carlene and Ivan celebrated sixty-five years of marriage prior to Ivan’s passing in 2023.
Ivan and Carlene spent many years wintering in Mesa, Arizona, and enjoyed making new friends, and catching up with old friends. Living in Mesa was nice because her sister and Ivan’s brother were permanent Arizona residents.
