Obituary

Betty Prang, 86, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at her home in Columbus.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 9, at 10:30 AM at the First Baptist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Columbus Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to Columbus Christian School or the Columbus Rescue Mission.

Betty Jo (Wirth) Prang was born on December 22, 1937, in Hunter, Kansas, to Henry and Viola (Lessor) Wirth. She graduated high school in Lincoln, Kansas. Betty attended Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas and graduated from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas with a degree in Elementary Education.  She taught in Salina, Kansas for four years. On August 8, 1964, Betty was united in marriage to Lyle Prang in Vesper, Kansas. They made their home in Columbus, Nebraska where she taught for a few years before starting a family.  Betty and Lyle were blessed with three sons.

Betty loved playing the piano. She served as pianist and Sunday School teacher at Redeemer Baptist Church, and loved playing hymns on her piano at home and also for sing-a-long at Columbus Manor. Betty and her husband delivered Meals on Wheels for several years. She also enjoyed reading good books and putting together jigsaw puzzles. She was recently a member of First Baptist Church.

Son: Jeffrey (Kelly) Prang of Madison, AL
Grandchildren: Josh, Abby, & Amelia Prang

Brother: Jim (Jolene) Wirth of Salina, KS
Sister-in-law: Janice (Dennis) Jung of Madison, SD
