Bernetta Elizabeth Berlin, 97, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Harbor House in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 10 at 10:30 AM, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus with Pastor Ollie Fullmer officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue Thursday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 AM on Thursday also at the church. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Platte County Historical Society.
Bernetta Elizabeth Berlin was born to Louis and Myrtle (Welin) Bokelman May 5, 1928, in Platte County, NE. She attended Platte County District #13 grade school and graduated from Genoa High School in 1945. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Genoa for 3 years.
She married Robert Berlin September 14, 1950, at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Genoa. They lived all their married life in Columbus except for the first year when Robert was called to active duty during the Korean War.
Bernetta was a secretary in the Columbus Public School System for 25 years, retiring in 1992. She became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus in 1950 and was a volunteer in the church office for many years and active in the various organizations and served on many committees in the church, teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible school. She also volunteered at the Platte County Museum and Columbus Community Hospital.
Bernetta is survived by her three sons: Bradley (Annie) of Lincoln, Michael (Michelle) of Omaha, Daniel (Cindy) of Lincoln. Five grandchildren: Jordan (Taylor) Hesseltine, Joel, Jenna (Chris Persigehl), Max and Erica Berlin; one step grandson Ryan Pavinato; one great grandson Dominic Hesseltine; one step great grandson Damyean Hesseltine.
Bernetta was preceded in death by her husband in 2003; her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Robert Zahn and sister and brother-in-law Aleta and Rollie Heins.
