Austin Matthies, 14, son of Mark & Amy Matthies of Clarkson, Nebraska, died Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 4 at 10:30 AM, at New Zion Presbyterian Church in Clarkson with Rev. Michele Monroe-Clark officiating.  Interment will be in Clarkson National Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM and continue Monday from 9:30 AM until service time, all at the church.

In lieu of flowers, stones, etc., memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Austin LeRoy Matthies was born on August 14, 2009, in Columbus, Nebraska, to Mark and Amy (Classen) Matthies.  Austin was an eighth grader at Clarkson Public School where he played saxophone in the pep band, was on the wrestling team, and was involved in track.

Austin was a very normal boy – enjoying riding his 4-wheeler, helping on the farm, feeding the calves, playing video games, and chatting with his friends.  He had just started helping to do live streaming of school sporting events and was looking forward to doing more.  Austin had a special gift about him when it came to animals, having the gift as a animal whisperer.  He loved animals, and they seemed to love him.  Austin's greatest attribute was his smile, and that smile will be missed by all who loved him.
